Day 168. – That’s Fog-tastic

Packed all the camera gear the night before, ready to get up at stupid AM to take a sunrise photo. The only problem was fog engulfed North Bondi, blocking the sun. Seeing this, we decided to take the boards out until that fog began to thin out.

Day 166. – Clovelly New Year

Kicking the last day of 2018 off at Clovelly Bay for a little snorkel and shoot. So far it’s been a pretty great year, with all the ebbs and flows this year has been mostly full of Flows? (or ebbs?.. whichever is the positive one). 2019 is going to be another very interesting year, so far…

Day 165. – Sweet Dreams

Interestingly, coming out of this. The only thought it what is next. Sweet Dreams is a multi-pitch in the Blue Mountains just near the 3 Sisters, it used to be the pinnacle and unachievable climbing dream. But this week we packed our bags and began the 3.30am drive. Beginning at ~6.30, the climb was pretty simple…

Day 160. – Calm Before The Storm

Alright, it’s been overcast all morning – but 3pm is different. We’re set for an hour of sun before the thunderstorm strikes the city and our Eastern Suburbs. It’s raining everywhere else right now, which means I’ll take advantage of every sunny second there is. Partially dramatic this afternoon with police, ambulance and terrible waves…

Day 157. – Canyon It

Suns out and we’re out to explore a few canyons in Macquarie Pass. It’s a warm day today which has the water temperature set to perfect and the canopy providing great shade. All photos here came from Dave, who took the dry route except when we hit the jump rock. Check out Dave here: @DJM_Images …

Day 156. – Too Much Of The Good Stuff

The perfect way to start the weekend with a splash today – It’s blue, orange and everything in-between this morning. Perfect for the drone shots. Missed Sunrise again as we’re popping up at ~5.45am but still managed to get an hour dip in before the 9am shuffle. Today we’re going inside the Surf Club for…
-
Day 155. – The Sandy Path

It’s not the best start to the weekend – but nevertheless, we’re going anyway. Get in because we’re heading up north for some beach 4wd and camping action. Most importantly, we’ll miss the morning traffic escaping Sydney and arrive around 10am, the sand is very loose but it’s nothing the SWB 3.2L TD Pajero can’t handle.…
-
Day 150. – Beach O’Clock

That was a wipe out of a weekend. Sleep with the blinds open, if the sun pops up we’ll heading to the beach for a dip first thing. Then off to work before 9am. Water temp is much better and the swell is just big enough to have some fun – leave the wetsuits at…
-
Day 148. – Blue Wheel Drive

It’s one of those low energy days… but the sun is out and the 4wd tracks in the blue mountains are calling. Time to get lost in on some tiny trails in the middle of BF nowhere. We took a dirt trail off Mountain Lagoon and made every turnoff we could find. Eventually following the…

Day 147. – A Suite Display

A display suite that once resembled a nightmare underwent the TNG treatment. Having transformed this 1914 building into an incredible sales suite that will last the years to come.
-
Day 146. – Beach Based

This rain shouldn’t have cleared so fast – it was supposed to be a disaster outside again. This morning we’re driving down Manly way to Curl Curl. Time to take the drone and my long lens out for a spin. Water clarity today was surprisingly good – considering the recent weather.
-
Day 145. – Long Weekend Freedom

No cell reception is the only cure that will get me through the week that is coming. We’re at the farm for a bit of partying and a bit of fun. With 4×4, motorbikes and empty paddocks mountain ranges to explore – it’s one of those great weekends away.

The music cut out and over the speakers her voice crackles in “I’m a bit hesitant to hit the usual spot, don’t want to send ya’ll out in 18-24 foot waves”…. As we begin listing to the left, turning back the direction just had come. “The sister boat has hit massive hurricane swell up ahead,…
-
Day 139. – Secret Spots

We’re up on what I call the left side of the island (it’s East-ish side) which has homeless everywhere living in tents, but some of the best local people and even better beaches. We’ve managed to find an Airbnb Campsite amoungst a mango farm, with a shower, toilet and wifi – all this for $17USD.…
-
Day 137. – Mermaid Caves

It’s pretty popular and these caves aren’t all that easy to get in and out. Coupled with the waves that flow underneath and you’re not looking too good if anything goes wrong. Today we’re at Mermaid Caves which consist of about 50m of underground caves, with spotlights that shine down and waves that roll through…
-
Day 134. – Jet-lagged Hawaii

That was a very long 16hrs of flying. But we’re here and the hire car is ready to take us anywhere we want to go. Time to hit up Pipeline and check the surf conditions (it’s predicted to be very flat). If that’s the case we’ll pack the hammock along and we’ll kill the jet…
-
Day 133. – Mountain Top Sunrise

It’s going to be an early one.. Too Early. Driving in the dark, we’ve got the perfect place to get some yoga underway. The only problem is we’re 50mins away and sunrise is at 6am. So it’s going to be an early rise for both us and the sun tomorrow. *Sliding Rocks is a short…
-
Day 126. – Lost At Lake Jocassee

We’ve got a plan, all we need to is get up early enough to get the job done. Today it’s a bit different. Up early and into the car, we’re out on the lake all day but first, we need to drop Jarryd and Dean off in the Kayaks for some scouting.

Day 121. – On Break Hikes

It’s rest hour which means the camp is quiet. Too quiet, but also quiet enough to recon a few hiking trails in the mountains before the climbing trip leaves. Pack light and be quick.. we’re on a tight schedule before we need to jump across to climb Looking Glass (again)..
-
Day 119. – Star Cadet

It’s never something I figured I’d miss but looking up the starry sky tonight I’ve realised it isn’t the same as Australia, and I’m not the only one here who’s noticing it. It’s like this part of the world gets extra sugar, guns and patriotism but misses out on those stellar late night milky way views…

Day 116. – Camping Sites and Mountain Bikes

Pile into the Van, Pack everything but forget those essentials like a toothbrush, deodorant or a sleeping mat). -
Day 110. – Fly The Grand Canyon

Don’t forget, your helicopter leaves at 4am so don’t get stuck in the casino and lose track of time drinking with old friends (Turns out that’s pretty easy to do with no windows or clocks). You’re about to fly over the Grand Canyon so be prepared for a sunrise over the Hoover Dam and the…
-
Day 109. – Yo Yosemite

How to tick Yosemite off the Bucket list: Book your solo flight out of Australia, meet up with two other Aussies and don’t forget to find a token New Zealander to bring along. Day 97. Surf Rescue 2018

The end of Bondi patrolled season is almost here. I finished up this 2018 season with the PM Nightingale patrol this week, which started on an adrenalin high after hearing stories of the AM patrols successful 6min resus (CPR) operation. That’s a rarity on Australias most popular beach but the team handled it exceptionally well. Anyway,…

Day 96. – Hike-cycle

Yea, okay so maybe Karloo pools wasn’t ‘just 400m this way’ instead it ended up being an 8km round trip. But that only made the maccas trip after so much more rewarding. Also, if you’re after a great cheesy date idea, Try bike rides during sunset. Results this way ->
