Day 177. – Kangaroo Point Crag

Moments like this are rare. Those moments when you don’t realise you’ve accomplished something that in the past you had thought wouldn’t be possible.

We moved around a lot and I was lucky enough to do my uni days up in Brisbane. With no friends except my family and my bike to get me around. Mum, who I wouldn’t describe as adventurous or daring, took me indoor climbing for something to do – I Can’t remember much but I do remember that was the first time I’d even gone climbing and loved it.

Fast forward +10 years and this weekend I’ve got the sun setting on my back as I lead up a crux section at Kangaroo Point. It’s a tiny overhang section with a lip right near the anchors making for a nice ledge platform to rest and take in the city view before coming back down.

Reaching the top was a surreal moment of reflection – Since learning to climb in April last year with friends in North Carolina I am now skilled enough to climb these places that never seemed possible on my own (or with a great girlfriend like Bianca).

Climbing is a sport I have no goals in, I’m not the best and constantly make small mistakes – I think that is what makes it such a good sport for me. Meeting strange friends, all who share the same lively spirit and passion, hanging out at a climbing crag in the middle of nowhere. Uniquely different
